From Lake Nawampassa in the Kyoga Basin north of Lake Victoria come some well established fish we have in the hobby. Unfortunately Harpagochromis sp. "golden duck" seems to have dwindled off the availability list as of late. This is a bigger predatory cichlid which is easily bullied around by all fish that do not deem it as a threat. It was once fairly common in the hobby but as the influx of new colorful haplochromines came on to the scene, it would seem that Harpagochromis sp. "golden duck" has been left behind. It is really too bad because although it lacks the spectacular hues of the rock cichlids, it is subtly very attractive in its own right. We are still one of several that work with this species. Hopefully, we can reestablish it in the hobby.
